This is Alex. The first time I met her, she had just become a mother. I discharged her home to begin a new life with her fiance', James and her new daughter, Jordyn. Flash forward two years, Alex came back into my world as a new RN. As she and I worked together, we became part of each other's lives.
She and James have been through a lot and even decided that they were no longer going to be together as a couple. However, for Alex, it has always been James. He has always been the man in her life, not just her child's father, but the one she turned to, talked with, leaned on.
This past year, James has joined the Army and has deployed to Iraq. During a recent trip home on leave, he asked Alex to marry him again, and she said "yes". They started planning a wedding for next September, when he was finally home, but then decided, due to the circumstances of war,to marry now. We went to the courthouse Friday for her to get married "by proxy". Her sister stood in for James and after jumping through a few hoops, she finally became, Mrs. James DeVaughn. It was bittersweet, because he was absent, but I was so glad that I was able to witness this day.
James, thank you for your sacrifice for my freedom. Praying for your safety and quick return home.
Alex had to get the 72 hour waiting period waived by a judge. We went to three floors trying to find one, but at 4:00 pm no judge was in the building. As we were solemnly leaving thinking the wedding would not happen, this judge came walking out of the bathroom. An answer to prayer.
She's hitched!!!
